Campers should bring in a dairy, nut free lunch. This meal should comply with our "nut-free policy". Click here for sample lunch items.
Please read our policy below carefully:
Due to the severe nature of peanut allergies among several of our youngest campers, where even exposure to a minute amount of peanuts or tree nuts may produce a life-threatening reaction, Camp Gan Israel is a peanut and nut-free environment. All lunches and food brought from home must not contain any traces of peanuts, peanut butter, peanut oil or tree nuts. Tree nuts consist of: Almonds, Brazil nuts, Cashews, Chestnuts, Filberts, Hazelnuts, Gianduja, Hickory Nuts, Marzipan, Nougat, Nu-Nutsa, Nut butters and pastes, Pecans, Pine nuts, Pistachios, and Walnuts.
Please read all labels thoroughly prior to sending food to camp. A list of sample lunches is provided. Campers will be instructed to not trade food and to thoroughly wash their hands after each meal and snack. If your child has peanut butter for breakfast, please be sure he/she washes his/her hands and face before coming to camp. In the event a child accidentally brings in a lunch item containing peanuts or tree nuts, Camp Gan Israel will substitute an appropriate lunch.
If your child will celebrate his/her birthday at camp, we require that all commercially prepared food contain a printed ingredient list.
While we realize that these precautions may be inconvenient, they are necessary. By following the above measures, you will be helping to make the camp a safer environment for campers with peanut/nut allergies.
