Design Your Day

One of the great aspects of Camp Gan Israel is that campers are able to choose additional activities that interest them. Amidst planned bunk activities, swimming and sports, campers have at least one elective—and often two—per day, choosing from workshops like: art, tennis, cooking, yoga, archery, and theater.

Tennis

Our tennis program is designed with the campers’ age and abilities in mind. There will be on-court instruction for all levels.

Instructor: Regina Semmes

Archery

Campers will learn the fundamentals of shooting a bow and arrow accurately as well as the proper etiquette for safe shooting.

Yoga

Yoga comes to life in fun, creative classes designed to stimulate the young child’s growing curiosity. Playful poses, animated breathing exercises and imaginative relaxation techniques are all used to develop body awareness, self-expression, social skills, positive thinking, and motor coordination.

For 5– and 6-year olds.

Instructor: Kerri Gawreluck

Hip Hop Dance

This workshop will teach you to move like a hip hopper. Learn how this music and dance originated and then impress your friends and family with your incredible moves.

Instructor: Austin Dailey

Little Chefs

This workshop makes cooking fun and interactive. Campers will make their own yummy creations to sample.

Instructor: Nicky Zion

Cartooning

Children ages 7 and up will enjoy learning cartooning techniques and bringing their own

characters to life.

Instructor: Debra Hamuka Falkenham

Chess

No matter what your level of skill, from beginner to experienced player, this workshop will help develop your campers’ ability. They will learn new ways to improve their game and have fun in the process.

Theater—Gan Izzy Cabaret Players

This workshop combines theater games, improvisation and music, and learn about the back stage workings of a theater, I ncluding make up, costume design, props, set design and more.

Campers will rehearse all summer long for a production of “The Wizard of Oz” during the final week of camp. All campers attending all 3 sessions with enthusiasm for performing or

working backstage are welcome. The performance on Tuesday, August 4th, will be at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre in Bridgeport, CT. The theater is set up cabaret-style, with table seating and refreshments. It is a fun experience for both the actors and the audience.

We are thrilled to welcome back Jimmy Johansmeyer. Jimmy performs in theaters throughout the country, and has been a company member of the acclaimed Downtown Cabaret Theatre Children’s Company for the past 13 years, appearing in over 50 productions. He has also just completed his ninth year as Director of the Chapel Street School Players in Stratford.

His costume work has been seen in New York, Maine, Florida, Connecticut, and off-Broadway.
